Artist Statement
I am interested in the signification of a medium of art while taking into consideration the context in which it exists. A video on the Internet functions differently in a gallery; the same goes for a photograph in a book or on a billboard. My work brings together a collision of meanings, at times evident, sometimes concealed, but always codified. Through art I (re)present these mind wonderings with a particular goal in mind, while allowing for multiple interpretations to whomever encounters .
Process Statement
My creative process takes many different approaches. I let the idea guide what I end up creating. Original and appropriated images and texts make up an important aspect of my work, as well as the merging of multiple narratives with a performative slant. While making things on my own are important to me, much of my recent photo-based work (billboards, self-published books and t-shirts), are printed by remote online services and shipped to their final destination. I enjoy the element of surprise.
